Title: | TOGGLE WEDDING SHOES |
Inventory#: | VE17124 |
Size: | 1.50" x 1.00" x 0.50" |
Country: | CHINA |
Price: | $300 |
Simple boxwood carving of a pair of âweddingâ shoes with remnants of red lacquer remaining. The shoe (Hai-tzu) is a direct pun on the word for children. The color red represented prosperity and health. All carvings of shoes were therefore often given on the occasion of a wedding in the hopes that the union would produce many healthy children. Thus toggles in the form of shoes were almost always called wedding shoes.
