Japanese carved wood architectural decorative element, known as gegyo, from the gable end of a traditional Japanese building in this case a small Shinto shrine. The finely carved panel gracefully curved and with two finely carved and reticulated Kirin. The Kirin is a paragon of virtue, filial and otherwise. It appears only at times of peace and wise rulers. The apex of the gegyo is extensively worn from impacts of a bell rung by the devoted to bring attentions of the Gods. From the Kofu region near Mount Fuji. With minor breaks and restorations.
