2-section Isho dansu (clothing chest) from Nihonmatsu, Japan. Hand-forged iron hardware with silver and brass details in the form of Mount Fuji with an eagle lock cover below. Two chrysanthemum floral heads serve as manual locking buttons. Forged drawer handles with bamboo motif back plates and plum blossom with plum blossom and pine bough escutcheons above and below represent "the Three Friends of Winter" representing strength, longevity and beauty. Lacquered Keyaki wood (Japanese red elm) drawer fronts with Cedar case. Late Meiji Period C. 1900
