A pair of Japanese sugi do painted cryptomeria wood doors. The doors with large painted floating panels within a red lacquer sugi (cryptomeria) wood frame. The surface left in its natural state and painted with gesso (Gofun) and mineral paints depicting bamboo. The doors originally used as sliding doors in front of a storage space or as part of the tokowaki, or side display area, of a tokonoma (display alcove). Meiji Period (1868 1912).
