Inventory#: | VE17240 |
Size: | 2.50" x 2.00" |
Country: | CHINA |
Price: | $650 |
A well worn cluster of lotus pads, stalks and seed pods with articulated seeds carved within the pod. The reverse with a branch of blossoming prunus. There are two words for lotus in Mandarin âHeâ and âLianâ which in turn are synonyms for Love, modesty, unbroken and to bind in unison. Consequently the lotus is almost always associated with marriage and happy unions. The plum blossom is often the first of the fruit trees to blossom even during a hatch and unforgiving winter cold. It symbolizes beauty strength and beauty in the face of adversity. Together these must have represented a hope for a successful, strong and fruitful marriage. Mid 19th c. Fruitwood.
