Good small Kuruma Dansu (wheeled chest). Constructed of Keyaki (Japanese red elm) casing and Hinoki (cedar) casing with heavy wrought iron fittings and lock plates. Two exterior side by side drawers are at the bottom with three more drawers behind the two slatted sliding drawers. Four rope pulls mounted at each corner of the bottom of the frame. These chest were made to hold valuables and in case of fire would be roped and pulled away from danger. Late 19th century. Rare.
